Pattern forming

Reasons I didn't post today:

1. Spent whole day looking for new state to live in.

2. Spent half day offering pro bono lessons on breast self exams.

3. Spent rest of day seeking defense attorney.

4. Preoccupied with finishing touches on keynote speech to U.N. General Assembly.

5. Stumbled across a case of wine. Went on stumbling for several hours thereafter. (hat tip: W.C. Fields)

Brain games

Reasons I didn't post today:

1. Imagination held hostage by 2blowhards.

2. Passed out during do-it-yourself jailhouse tattoo. Remained unconscious for hours.

3. Traded all my posting time to read Chestertonian in Hollywood.

4. Had utterly realistic dream that I posted a wildly popular piece that drew millions of hits and crashed the server. Spent rest of day mistakenly resting on non-existent laurels in mood of smug self-satisfaction.

5. Sponge bath took longer than I could have possibly imagined.

Oops!

Reasons I didn't post today:

1. Got way too caught up in separating recyclables.

2. Kinetic drive on time machine broke. Spent whole day in 1853.

3. Summoned to Rome by the Pope ... again.

4. Tied up in conference call with Angie Jolie, Sandy Bullock, Shelly Pfiefer, and Daryn Kagan.

5. Listened to Joe Carter again: Won the game but lost the day.

Not again!

Five reasons I didn't post today:

1. Working out Middle East peace plan took longer than expected.

2. Computer calendar displayed year as 1966; spent whole day not knowing blogging had been invented.

3. Accidentally got all balled up in string theory.

4. Bereft of energy after missing most important meal of the day.

5. Still recovering from President's Day celebrations.

Sitings

Five reasons I didn't post today:

1. Spent whole day tuning guitar only to realize it was a banjo.

2. Took five minutes to rescue puppies from a burning kennel. Took rest of day trying to explain why I shouldn't be considered a hero.

3. Accidentally opened up a Terry Pratchett novel and simply could not put it down.

4. Thought all the people who cared about my blog had been raptured.

5. Spent whole day trying to smoke a salmon. Much harder to keep lit than a Camel.

Paper news

Steven Rattner writes the blues about the news.

"Perhaps most worrisome is the loss of young readers, who have drifted away steadily since the early 1970s, long before there was an Internet, when more than 70% of 18- to 34-year-old Americans read a daily newspaper. Last year that figure stood at 35%."

Among other things, he speculates that newspapers might survive if transformed into non-profits.

"Not-for-profit status might be one possibility. Instead of having billionaire moguls as proprietors, we could try to turn them into philanthropists who found nonprofit organizations to buy and operate their local papers. At least one such example exists: the St. Petersburg Times, owned by the Poynter Foundation as a result of a bequest by Nelson Poynter."

One question: What are we going to do with all the unemployed journalists?
